Verdai — Legal

Verdai Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 24, 2026

Verdai is a plant identification and care app for Android (package com.salazardevs.verdai). Your plant collection lives on your device. To identify plants and diagnose their health, the photos you scan are sent securely to our AI backend for processing and are not stored on our servers. This policy explains exactly what data is handled and by whom.

1. Data stored locally on your device

The following is stored only on your device, inside the app's private sandboxed storage, and never leaves it unless you explicitly share it:

  • Your garden: identified plants, nicknames, health results, care tasks and reminders
  • Timeline photos you add to a plant and any notes
  • Care streak and usage counters shown in the app
  • Onboarding completion and language preference

You can remove this data at any time: delete an individual plant, use Settings → Delete my data to erase everything at once, or uninstall Verdai.

2. Plant photos and AI analysis

When you scan a plant or ask for a re-analysis, the photo is sent over an encrypted connection to our backend (hosted on Supabase), which forwards it to our AI provider, Anthropic (Claude), to identify the plant and assess its health.

These images are processed only to generate your result. They are not stored on our servers or used to train models. The result (identification, health, care plan) is returned to your device and saved locally in your garden.

3. AI plant expert chat

If you use the AI expert chat, your question and a small amount of context about the plant (such as its name and known care guide) are sent to Anthropic (Claude) to generate a reply. Messages are processed to answer you and are not stored on our servers beyond what is needed to complete the request.

4. Anonymous account and usage limits

On first launch, Verdai creates an anonymous session through Supabase. This does not require your name, email, or any personal identifier — it is a random anonymous ID.

We store, tied to that anonymous ID, a count of how many scans and chat messages you use per period. This is used solely to enforce fair-use and free/premium limits.

5. Subscriptions — RevenueCat

For subscription management and purchase validation we use RevenueCat, Inc. (https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy/). RevenueCat receives:

  • An anonymous identifier (not linked to your real identity)
  • Device platform (Android) and country code (for localized pricing)
  • Purchase history of Verdai subscriptions only
  • IP address (used temporarily for tax/region calculation)

RevenueCat does not receive your plant photos, chat messages, or any personal content.

6. Payments — Google Play Billing

Purchases are processed by Google Play Billing, governed by Google's Payment Terms and Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). Google receives your payment method and Google account email. Verdai never sees or stores your payment information.

7. Permissions we request

  • Camera — to take photos of your plants for identification and diagnosis
  • Photos/media — to let you pick an existing photo from your gallery
  • Notifications — to send the care reminders you enable
  • Location (approximate) — optional, only to show local weather and adjust care tips

If you enable local weather, your approximate (city-level) location is sent to the weather provider Open-Meteo (https://open-meteo.com) to fetch current conditions. It is not stored on our servers, and precise/GPS location is never used.

8. What we do NOT collect

  • Your name, email, or account profile
  • Precise location, contacts, calendar, or files
  • Advertising identifiers — Verdai shows no ads
  • Any data used to track you across other apps or companies

9. Children's privacy

Verdai is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

10. Data retention

  • On-device data: retained until you delete it (Settings → Delete my data) or uninstall
  • Plant photos sent for analysis: processed transiently, not retained on our servers
  • Usage counters (anonymous ID): retained while needed to enforce limits
  • RevenueCat and Google Play purchase records: retained per their policies

11. Your rights and deletion

  • Delete everything yourself: Settings → Delete my data erases your plants, tasks, notes, treatments, history, preferences, usage counters and the anonymous identifier itself — on the device and on our servers
  • Deletion is immediate and irreversible: we keep no backups of deleted data and there is no retention period
  • Full instructions, including what to do if you have already uninstalled: salazarsdevs.com/apps/verdai/delete
  • Cancel subscriptions via Google Play Store → Subscriptions → Verdai — deleting your data does not cancel an active subscription

12. Security

  • All communication with our backend, Anthropic, RevenueCat and Google uses TLS (HTTPS)
  • AI API keys are held only on our server, never in the app
  • On-device data uses Android's app-private storage

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be notified through the app or the Google Play listing. The "Last updated" date reflects the most recent revision.
